Roy Li is a third generation Hainanese Singaporean and his ancestral home is located in Qionghai, Hainan. His entrepreneurship journey started with international trade. Importing Christmas trees and small ornaments from Yiwu China. Roy then later imported wedding dresses from Suzhou China to Singapore. Due to the rise of Alibaba and the increasingly fierce competition in international trade, he wisely used his hard earned money to set up many companies and invested in many projects.

He joined the newly established youth group of the Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan in 2012. In the beginning, he didn’t have much interest in organizing club activities, however he changed his stance when an event organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hainan Province, allowed him the opportunity to visit Hainan for the first time. He felt an unexplainable sense of belonging when he first returned to Hainan. In 2013, he decided to spend more time participating in club activities and organizing club activities to attract young people, serving as one of the youth leaders. Later on, he would organize winter camps to Hainan for young people every year. He also assisted the Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan in planning the 4th World Hainan Youth Conference, hosting Singapore’s very first Belt and Road Forum. In 2016, he was elected as the Director of the Youth Department of Singapore Qionghai Association.

In 2017, the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce established a representative office in Singapore, and the Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan was responsible for the representative office. On the recommendation of the Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan, he was appointed as the commissioner of the Commercial Representative Office of the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce in Singapore and was responsible for assisting the Department of Commerce in attracting investments from Southeast Asia. After returning to Singapore, he planned and hosted the first World Qionghai Entrepreneurship Summit with the Singapore Qionghai Association. Through these events, Roy was able to meet and develop valuable relationships in Southeast Asia and China. Upon finishing his term at the representative office, he decided that it was time to venture into Hainan.

In 2019, he joined the Asian American Medical Group of Singapore to venture into the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone in Qionghai City, Hainan Province. On November 28, 2020, the Asian American Medical Group officially unveiled the opening of its Asia Advance International Specialist Medical Center in Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone. On the very same day, the Yes Doctor online medical platform he founded was officially launched.

Soon after, the Singapore Asia American Medical Group, together with Hainan Yes Doctor Technology Co., Ltd., Hainan HIFU Medical Technology Co., Ltd., and Hainan Finsen Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. signed an agreement to jointly develop the medical industrial chain. On October 13, 2021, he acquired Hainan Forward Chinese Investment Group Co., Ltd.(HFCIGC) and served as its president. HFCIGC’s main function was to assist foreign enterprises in providing a one-stop service platform to venture into Hainan. Roy has the intent to invest and help incubate more foreign quality enterprises before Hainan becomes a free trade zone in 2025.

The COVID epidemic has affected many businesses. At present, China has done remarkably well to recover from this crisis. This is why Roy decided to choose to invest in Hainan. He visions a future where the world will have to coexist with the virus. He believes that companies should take this period as an opportunity to optimize their operations and management model to improve company efficiency, retain and cultivate its core talents. He also feels that in the future, creating a nice façade for a business will not be important. Enterprises must keep pace with the times and innovate its business model to serve its customers well and bring greater value to them. This is how businesses will survive and thrive.

Singaporean youth lacks the spirit to venture out because they live in a comfortable environment and belong in a safe country. His advice for the youth is to venture out while they are young. Roy opines that there are only two ways of living a life – One, is to live to survive while the other is to live your life to the fullest. Up to now, Roy has worked hard with the aim of living his life to the fullest. This is his ultimate goal in life. Our lives are the sum total of all our choices. In so doing, making the right choice is much more important than simply putting in an effort or going through a motion. Young people can participate in more clubs to accumulate contacts and should travel abroad more often to participate in international activities to meet people that are better than themselves. This way, they can learn and get inspired by others. A loser always sees the problem and a winner sees the solution. The bigger the problem, the bigger the business opportunity will be. Don’t wait for the opportunity to find you, you have to create the opportunity yourself.
